JDT games and our idea
Hi! we are JDT games, a group made up by isi_reyes, NuWarrior and emasaavedra, for the Videogame Desing and Development course from the University of Chile.
Our idea for this game is a top-down horror experience where the goal is to escape from a terrifying three-story mansion with very little light and plenty of creatures trying to catch the player. To escape, the player will be able to invert gravity and walk on the ceiling! This comes in handy when certain paths are blocked, but it comes at a cost. The player will have a sanity meter that depletes faster when on the ceiling. Additionally, the creatures become more terrifying and will chase the player more quickly.
The objective is to find items that help "clear" the area where the exit to the nex level is located. The items could be on either the floor or the ceiling. Of course, being careful with the creatures...
We plan to create a deeply terrifying atmosphere, with sounds and effects designed to give the player a truly chilling experience that fully immerses them in the horror.
The current state of the game
Currently, our game is just a demo showcasing the gravity inversion mechanic, allowing players to switch between walking on the floor or ceiling. We created a test map to implement this feature more effectively. We've also added the small light that the character will have in the map, which gives us an idea of the character's vision range. In addition, we put together a start menu and pause menu with a placeholder background and title, since we haven’t finalized them yet.
Coming up, we’d like to continue refining the game mechanics and start adding the character’s sprite with the corresponding animations, as well as begin introducing enemies.
If you’re reading this, we really appreciate it and hope you stay tuned for future updates on our game’s progress :)
